Here is the lineup for profiles and Q&A’s. Today and tomorrow please fill out a Gargoyle story planner. When you do so, please include your preferred format (profile or Q&A). Give the completed planner to your editor. Meet with your editor by Wednesday of this week. After your conference, please give me your planner so I can take a look at it as well.

There is no maximum length for your article. Minimum length is 500 words. Please consult past senior profiles and Q&A’s to get an idea of what’s expected.

Note 1: Senior columns are not mandatory, but if you are a senior and don’t want to write a column reflecting on your Uni experience, you will have to write a final blog entry that meets my specifications in order to receive a grade for both the quarter and the semester.

Staff blog entry directions, again

Evidently some people have forgotten the procedure to follow when a blog entry is completed. Here it is, again:

You finish your entry on the scheduled day
You e-mail both Laura and Maritza and tell them you’re finished.
One of them will read your entry. If it’s good, they will publish it right away. If it needs to be revised, they will contact you with instructions.
If revision is needed, you will revise the entry and then let your editor (Laura or Maritza) know that you are finished.
Again, if the revision is satisfactory, your entry will be published. If not, more revision will be requested. Etc.

If you decide that your entry is big enough to become a column, let Maritza and Laura know as soon as you’ve come to that conclusion.

Directions for Agora team leaders

Team Leaders:

1. When you and your team members have finished your first drafts, create a single OG entry for all of your team stories.

2. Copy and paste each of the stories into the single entry.

3. Identify your entry by writing a main headline like this:

Agora Days ’10: Danny’s Team (or Chris’ Team, Will’s Team, etc.)

4. Each story within your entry will have a headline in bold () of its own. For the time being, write something basic for each.

5. Write a short intro in italics () at the top of your entry. The intro simply tells the reader what’s going on. See the intros to our various play diaries for examples.

6. Save your single entry, then delete the individual entries — but don’t delete until you are sure that your single entry has been successfully saved.

7. Pick out the photos to use with your team’s stories. I’ll help you put the photos into the entry, if necessary.

8. We’re going to start publishing the stories on Wednesday (Feb. 24). Here is the schedule:

Agora Days 2010 — photo schedule during free periods

Here is the list of free periods during which OG staffers will take photos.

Reminder to photographers: Visit all the classes in your time slot. We don’t need a lot of photos overall, but we should strive for pictures of each class being offered. In other words, it’s better to have “only” 25 or 30 pictures that include all the classes during a period than 150 photos that focus on only a few classes.

First Hour: Adam, Wednesday

Agora Days 2010 schedule — teams and stories

Except for those Gargoyle editors and reporters who are spending this week in Mississippi on the Habitat for Humanity trip , everyone on the OG will contribute a feature story about one of their Agora classes.

The feature should be 400 to 450 words long and can be written in the first or third person. Choose a class that lends itself to colorful description and use of dialogue. It can be a class in which you are a student or that you teach. Take notes, either written or mental (the latter if you are the teacher), during each day of the class.

Deadline: First drafts will be due at the end of Monday, Feb. 22. Send your draft to your team leader.

Here is the list of teams for the Agora ’10 project and the classes that each person has volunteered to write about. In a separate entry, I will publish a list of free periods during which staff members will take photos of the classes being taught during that time slot.
